The desire to establish French-Canadians across the country
was a common dream for the clergy of both Eastern and Western
Canada. It was hoped that in the West, the Métis would learn the
rudimentaries of agriculture from their peers who would arrive
from the East to take homesteads, and in this fashion, would be
assimilated to them.
