The community radio station CKRP FM at Falher broadcasts in
the Peace River area 40 to 60 hours a week. The station is
directed by the local Association canadienne-française de
l’Alberta (ACFA) president, Mélanie Simard.
Established in 1996, the station’s operating costs have been
raised through bingos and telethons. A telethon in March 2004
raised $13,000, and a regular Tuesday evening bingo (with cards
being sold at stores in the region for four dollars) is very
popular.
At this time, the station has only one employee, Jules-Hubert
Beaulieu, who does the morning show Monday through Friday from 7
am to 9am. The afternoon show is hosted by a volunteer, as is
the bingo.
The station is located in the Centre Chevalier, a cultural
centre in Falher, and although there have been some interruptions
in broadcasting, the station is currently on the air regularly.
