Algar Lake

Category : Lake

The name “Algar” was recorded for these features as early as 1914; however, it is not known after whom it is named. The local and historical name for the river and its source is the Cree word twasino for “to drown” or “to fall through the ice.” The source of the river at Algar Lake does not freeze and therefore many animals and people have drowned there.
