Volunteer Calgary group shotAlberta’s numerous voluntary umbrella organizations provide a collective voice for the not-for-profit sector. They promote the value and the important contributions the voluntary sector gives to our society. Some umbrella voluntary organizations give individual volunteers special recognition.

Umbrella organizations strive to provide leadership and mobilize the resources of the voluntary sector. They enhance programs, services, operations, and governance. Importantly, they build the sector’s capacity to advocate and address issues that have an impact on not-for-profit organizations.

There are 21 Volunteer Centres located throughout Alberta. A volunteer centre is a nonprofit organization or program that supports the needs of volunteers, promotes and builds local volunteering, and connects volunteers with opportunities to serve in their communities.
