Organization Name: Calgary Seniors Resource Society

Volunteer's Name: Inge de Antoni

About this volunteer:
Inge de Antoni is an exceptional volunteer by any standard. Inge helps CSRS make a huge difference in the lives of Calgary seniors as an escorted transportation driver and by helping with income tax work. As a driver, she often does two trips in one day. Inge is congenial, cheerful and very organized. Inge is a giving person, and clients can sense this. Clients love her and many put in a special request for Inge to drive them. There is always a demand for escorted transportation in Calgary , and Inge never hesitates to give someone a ride, and even takes appointments that are very early in the day. While Inge regularly does at least three trips per week, she says she gets as much out of volunteering as clients do. Her work with CSRS has been a real eye-opener to the plight of seniors in the community. Some have real challenges with their health, many live alone and are at risk of becoming isolated. Inge is interested to know why some seniors are able to cope with their situation, while others do not cope so well. Inge's volunteer experience has taught her the importance of maintaining her positive attitude toward life and makes her grateful that she tries to live well. For Inge, that means going to the gym three times a week and plenty of walks, especially when the weather is nice. Inge says she wants to stay healthy, so she won't have to be at the mercy of the government when she gets older. In addition to Inge's work with CSRS, she volunteers with home care. Inge feels that by doing what she can for seniors, she hopes that services will be in place if ever she needs help. She looks forward to her volunteer tasks, and recommends prospective volunteers give it a try. Inge says she's made many dear friends from her volunteer work. Recently, when one of Inge 's clients; who has no family in town was in the hospital, Inge visited her in the hospital, and later, on her birthday. Inge says of her clients, “you can really sense their appreciation.” Calgary needs more volunteers like Inge de Antoni.
