Named for its proximity to the Cypress Hills, this rural municipality was formed as the “MD of Forty Mile” in 1955. It was an amalgamation of a number of older improvement districts. In 1985 it became the “MD of Cypress No. 1,” and in 1996 changed its name to “Cypress County.”
