Adam Joachim, Mount

Category : Mountain

The name Mount Adam Joachim was originally proposed in 1968 by James Munroe Thorington (see Thorington Tower) for Adam Joachim (1875-1959). Joachim was born at Berland Lake, Alberta in 1875, a descendant of both the original Iroquois canoemen who came west with the North West Company and Hudson's Bay Company trader Colin Fraser (see Mount Colin). Joachim was educated at Father Lacombe's St. Albert Mission and later studied for three years at a seminary in Montreal. Due to a family crisis, he returned to Alberta and subsequently married a daughter of Ewan Moberly. Joachim was fluent in French, English, Latin and several Indian languages and had little trouble obtaining employment as a guide for trappers, traders and outfitters, when he was not trapping, hunting or fishing himself. Joachim also served as the lead packer for the Alpine Club of Canada when it operated in the Jasper area. As a result, he accompanied numerous prominent mountaineers during the early 1900s as they explored areas previously unseen by white men. (see Joachim Creek)

Approximately 65 km south-east of Jasper in Jasper National Park.
