The Heritage Community Foundation wishes to thank Parks Canada, Department of Canadian Heritage for permission to reprint, in its entirety, The Settlement of Oklahoma Blacks in Western Canada, a report prepared by Michael B. Payne, PhD. At the time research for the report was undertaken, Dr. Payne was Head of the Research and Publications Program for the Historic Sites and Cultural Facilities Branch of Alberta Community Development. He has also worked for Parks Canada as a historian specializing in fur trade social history and is the author of several articles and books on the subject. Dr. Payne is currently Chief Archivist, City of Edmonton Archives.
