Insect and Disease Control: Disease-Resistant Crops
ARC is engaged in a collaborative research project with an Edmonton biotechnology company to develop genetically improved crops with increased nutrient uptake, lower use of fertilizer, and greater resistance to diseases and pathogens. The joint research project combines ARC's expertise in crop improvement and plant disease management, with the expertise of AgriGenomics Inc. in genetic mapping and gene identification.
The three-year project is focused on developing molecular tools for improving crops.
AgriGenomics was created nearly three years ago as a spin-off company from the University of Alberta. The company has a strong track record and emerging patent portfolio, making it the kind of partner ARC actively seeks to further its goal of bringing innovative technologies to market.
