Canadian Petroleum Interpretive Centre at Leduc No. 1 Historic Site

Leduc No. 1 at the Canadian Petroleum Interpretive CentreThe Canadian Petroleum Interpretive Centre and Canadian Petroleum Hall of Fame were established in 1996 and were created to showcase Canada's oil industry to the world and to salute the grit, determination and success of the Alberta oil patch.

The Interpretive Centre is in the centre of the world famous Leduc-Woodbend Oilfield on the site of Leduc No. 1. The centre contains artifacts, photos, scale models and colourful stories, designed to give the viewing public a taste of what it was like to be a part of oil history. The site is owned and operated by the Leduc / Devon Oil Field Historical Society and is a year-round education centre focusing on the history of oil, secrets of discovery, recovery and transportation.

The Canadian Petroleum Interpretive Centre is a museum with education and interpretation as its central focus. It features geological displays, scale models and other current and historical oilfield equipment. There are also interactive computer games, descriptive displays, and interpreters—many of them oil patch veterans, to guide you through the centre, and answer your questions. Other outdoor displays include: service and seismic rigs, a model battery site, operating drilling rigs, and the original Leduc No. 1 well site—designated a Provincial Historic Resource in 1986 and a National Historic Site in 1990. There is also a resource library and Hall of Fame where you can learn all about veterans and heroes of the Oil Patch.
