Agricultural Innovations—Internet-Based Food Management

A $1 million joint research venture between the Alberta Research Council and BCL Landview Systems Inc., Edmonton, has resulted in a new online tool, Landview On-LineTM, for farmers, ranchers, agribusiness, agri-retailers and landowners. The system turns information and data into knowledge that can improve management and decision making. The software has been developed specifically for land resource and agribusiness applications, and is widely used by farm managers, as well as small and large agri-business enterprises.

Access to database and data mining capabilities through online centralized data management eliminates the need for these agribusinesses to buy the software or manage the data themselves. Before release the new system was tested by agribusiness clients. United Grain Growers (UGG) Vermilion Region, a beta test site, is one such company currently using the online system. UGG estimates the return on the Landview system is 10 times the original investment.
