Atlantic Canada

Each of the four Atlantic Provinces has a separate history of development in the oil and gas industry. The oil and gas industries of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland, and Labrador have taken different paths. Nova Scotia started out as the centre for whale oil and kerosene. Gas and oil refining are only part of New Brunswick’s vast mining operations. Prince Edward Island’s exploration in natural gas was a recent development. Newfoundland joined confederation in 1949 with an extensive industrial history under Great Britain. All the Atlantic Provinces are pursuing further development of their petroleum industries in their own unique way.
