Political
influentials are people who are not elected into the Legislative
Assembly , but who either work alone or form a group with similar
interests and attempt to influence the government from outside the
legislative process. They usually represent a cause and try to
convince legislators that it is important enough to warrant
government action. They might target the government in order
to obtain results, or the opposition who would raise the topic in
daily question period and ask why the government has failed to act
on it. They might also try to get media attention to raise
public awareness on the issue.
Political influentials are people just like you and me who
believe in something enough to take action. A good example of
political influentials is the Famous Five, a group of Alberta women
who worked to allow women to sit as senators.
So, it
is not only Provincial Officials that influence how the province is
governed. Ordinary people have more say than you might
think. Remember that next time you have a concern!
