150th Anniversery Events

Lambton Country is the birthplace of the oil industry in Canada. The Village of Oil Springs is home to the site of the first commercial oil well in North America, which was dug in 1858. This area is also home to Canada's first oil gusher, first Oil Exchange and first oil company.

Artwork created for the Anniversery Events Pamphlet The innovations and disoveries in the Oil Heritage district of Lambton County have had a major impact on not only Canada's petroleum industry but also globally. One of Canada's most important industries was developed from this humble beginning. Because of the discovery of oil, we are able to heat homes, drive cars, and build using synthetically created rubbers and plastics.

The Oil Museum of Canada, a National Historic Site, has developed the 2008 Celebrate initiative to welcome guests from around the world who come to learn the stories of Canada's oil pioneers.
