History

Promotion for David J. Carter's book, Prairie Wings: Royal Air Force #34 Service Flying Training School Medicine Hat, AlbertaFor thousands of years, people have been documenting their experiences to ensure communication with future generations. However, it has only been in the last century, with the creation of the printing press and subsequent inventions, that we have been able to make the printed word accessible to the masses. Today we are fortunate enough to be able to document much more of our experience. While no doubt some events slip through the cracks and are forgotten in time, it occurs less and less.

Promotion for Pilot: A Tale of High Adventure by pilot Joe PatientWithout a doubt Alberta played a substantial part in training airmen for the World War II. Yet many who call this province home are unaware of this important part of our history. Fortunately, a body of work created to evaluate and preserve this moment in time has been emerging. A testament to the massive undertaking that the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan (BCATP) was, numerous books, articles, photographs and websites are a legacy that will last as long as people continue to seek them out.

Follow this link for a list of resources dealing with the history of the BCATP.
