Airdrie, Settlement

Airdrie is a small city that straddles Highway 2 just north of Calgary, Alberta. The city is located in the Nose Creek Valley, and was named after a village outside of Glasgow, Scotland. The name “Airdrie” means “The King’s Height.” William McKenzie, a contracting engineer for the Calgary and Edmonton Railway, named the village in 1889. The first people who lived there were railway workers.
