Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF)
This section features
the first hand accounts of a handful of Royal Canadian Air
Force (RCAF) personnel who trained in Alberta under the British
Commonwealth Air Training Plan (BCATP).
Included are stories by
Edward Bryce Chase and Stan Reynolds, who tell tales
of nights on guard duty; by Gordon Diller, who recounts
the ins and outs of wireless training; from E.S. Marshall
who tells of a tragic
search and rescue operation; and Doug Warren, who takes us through
the routine at both an Elementary Flying Training School (EFTS)
and a Service Flying Training School (SFTS). The experiences
of Alexander Shand are told
by
his granddaughter Nadia, while Jim Northrup explains life at No. 3
SFTS in Calgary. In a unique account, Herbert Padwick
explains the challenges of improving maintenance efficiency
at bases across Canada, while Robert Tipper describes the
day-to-day activities of training.
