Plaque for MacKenzie's Fireplace (Fort Fork).

MacKenzie's Fireplace Plaque.

Sign reads: This fireplace is a reconstruction of one of the fireplaces at Sir Alexander Mackenzie's fort of 1792 - 1805, Fort Fork. It was from Fort Fork that Mackenzie crossed to the Pacific Ocean in the Spring of 1793 - thereby becoming the first European to cross the continent north of Mexico. Fort Fork was located approximately 15 kilometres upstream from the town of Peace River. The bottom half of the fireplace was reconstructed from the original stones of the fireplace.
