At the turn of the twentieth century, the Oblate missionaries of the diocese of St. Albert, directed by Bishop Émile Legal, envisioned the creation of bustling French Canadian communities in this region, comprised of farmers, shopkeepers, teachers and merchants. The character of Saint Vincent would not be particularly determined by its landmarks, but more by the people who contributed to the construction of the small French community. As settlers began to arrive in the St. Vincent region at the beginning of the 20th century, their adventures and stories would be intertwined into a collective community history. Presented in this section are a few of the life histories of St. Vincent’s first residents.
