In a country as geographically,
economically and ethnically diverse as Canada, the concept of national identity is a popularly
debated topic. This is not a huge surprise once one takes into
consideration the rural and urban differences,
variation in ethnic origin and limitless
other factors that are a part of this vast country.
Consequently, when one attempts to envision a uniquely "Albertan
identity," the task is really to discover one
identity within many others.
There are many layers. The fact remains that a unique Albertan identity is extremely difficult
to describe, as there is no singular "Albertan." Rather,
the difficult-to-define Albertan is made up of a rich mix of peoples
which all contribute valuable characteristics and give meaning to the Albertan identity at large.
