ErdmanIn 1913, Ralph Erdman was born in Barons, one of the largest Estonian settlements in Alberta. He completed his elementary and high school at the Barons Consolidated School and went on to earn his Diploma in Agriculture from the Claresholm School of Agriculture in 1930 and, eventually, a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Agriculture from the University of Alberta. Upon obtaining his Master's Degree, Mr. Erdman took a position with the Soils Department at the University of Alberta where he remained for 10 years. In 1947 he became the Soil Specialist for the University of Lethbridge Experimental farm. Ralph Erdman was also an Assessor for the M.D. of Willow Creek, Claresholm. He was extremely interested in grains and grain production and started to exhibit grain at many different agricultural shows throughout North America. In 1956 and again in 1957, Erdman won the Reserve Championship for wheat at the Chicago International Exposition, when he showcased  samples of durum wheat. In 1961, he was honored with winning the World's Wheat Grand Championship at the Toronto Royal Agricultural Winter Fair, when once again he brought a sample of his prized Stewart Durum wheat weighing 68 pounds to the bushel.
