Electromagnetic Actuator Mechanism for Model Aircraft (Patent No: 737084)

Inventor: Leadbetter, Charles P.

Location: Edmonton

Comments: N/A

Description:

The embodiments of the invention in which an exclusive property or privilege is claimed are defined as follows:

1.Apparatus for actuating the control mechanisms of models and the like, comprising a toothed wheel mounted rotatably and coupled operatively to such control mechanisms whereby rotation of the tooth wheel will actuate the control mechanisms, solenoids positioned adjacent opposite edges of the toothed wheel, armatures on the solenoids and means to actuate the solenoids to draw the armatures into the solenoids, latches connected operatively to the armatures to engage with a tooth on the toothed wheel as the armatures are drawn into the solenoids and to disengage from the tooth on the tooth wheel as the armatures are raised from the solenoids and means to decelerate the movement of the armatures into the solenoid.

2. The apparatus as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the means to decelerate movement of the armatures into the solenoids include a resistence and switches to cut the resistence into series with the electrical circuitry to the solenoids.

3. In an actuating system for the control mechanisms of models and the like, a toothed wheel mounted rotatably and coupled operatively to the control mechanisms whereby rotation of the toothed wheel will actuate the control mechanisms, solenoids mounted adjacent opposite edges of the toothed wheel, latch mechanisms connected operatively to the solenoids to engage with opposite sides of the toothed wheel as the solenoids are actuated to rotate the toothed wheel in opposite directions, a control switching mechanism connected operatively to the solenoids and having a series of electrical contacts whereby movement of the control in one direction will successively energize one of the solenoids and movement of the control in the opposite direction will successively energize the other solenoid and wherein the amplitude of movement of the toothed wheel will at all times be the same as the amplitude of movement of the control switching mechanism and wherein the position of the toothed wheel will be strictly relative to the position of the control switching mechanism is not being moved.
