A television surveillance system for monitoring a large area such as a forest including a plurality of television cameras positioned in predetermined spaced-apart stations in the area. A communications network is provided for transmitting television signals from the television cameras to a control station, and means is provided for determining the respective bearings from two or more cameras to a source of anomalous electromagnetic radiation, whereby the location of said source can be determined at the control station to enable appropriate counter measures to be adopted.
