Inventor: Anderson, Reginald S.

Location: Calgary

Comments: N/A

Description: [52] CLASS 23-332
[11] 946,133
[54] PRODUCTION OF SULPHUR FROM A HYDROGEN SULFIDE-HYDROCARBON GAS STREAM
[72] Anderson, Reginald S., Calgary, Alberta, Canada
[73] Granted to Shell Internationale Research Maatschappij N.V., The Hague, Netherlands
[21] Application No. 109,753
[22] Filed Apr. 6, 1971 9 Claims

[57] Process for producing elemental sulphur from a hydrogen sulphide feed stream containing hydrocarbons, comprising cooling the feed stream while under pressure, expanding the cooled feed stream to obtain a first liquid hydrogen sulphide phase and a first gaseous phase, separating said first liquid phase and said first gaseous phase, reducing the pressure on the separated liquid phase to obtain a second gaseous phase and a second liquid phase, combining said first gaseous phase and said second liquid phase and completely burning said combined first gaseous and second liquid phases and mixing the combustion products with the second gaseous phase and reacting the hydrogen sulphide and sulphur dioxide present in the mixed gases for the formation of elemental sulphur.
