Claim.—1. In a magnetic ore separator and amalgamator, an inclined riffled flume, a transverse opening near the upper end of said flume between the riffles, a screen above and covering said opening, an inclined magnetizable plate below said opening; magnets below said .plate, screw means for adjusting said magnets to and from said plate, a transverse trough at the lower end of said plate, a cover slideable transversely over the open mouth of said trough, a feeding apron at the lower end of said cover adapted to feed the water and unmagnetizable material into mercury containing receptacle located below same, means for agitating the mercury therein and means to carry off the waste material, all as shown and described.

2. In a magnetic ore separator and amalgamator, an inclined riffled flume, a transverse opening near the upper end of said flume, an inclined magnetizable plate below said opening, magnets below said plate and adapted to be adjusted to and from said plate, a transverse trough at the lower end of said plate adapted to receive the magnetizable constituents of the treated material, a cover slidable over said trough and an apron below same. adapted to feed the water and unmagnetizable material into a mercury containing receptacle below the apron, water inlets at opposite sides of said receptacle adapted to give the mercury a whirling motion, pockets at opposite sides of said receptacle adapted to collect certain of the mineral elements of the material, an overflow opening to carry off the waste material, all as shown and described.
