Research Services Office, U of A
The Research Services Office (RSO) at the University of
Alberta is proud of its position as a "national leader in the business of
transferring university-derived knowledge, technology, and innovation to
the commercial sectorfor the benefit of all society." The U of A has
created the RSO to take the innovations from their researchers and make
these innovations profitable and beneficial. The RSO links approximately
2,000 University researchers with government, industry and other
stakeholders creating a direct connection between innovative ideas and
investment capital.
In addition to a Finance and Agreements Groups which
provides support to researchers concerning grants, contracts and funding
administration, the RSO helps researchers to bring new inventions and
innovation into the marketplace and the broader community through their
Technology Transfer Group. The groups offers expertise in spin-off company
development and technology transfer, including
- Intellectual Property Evaluation. The RSO helps researchers
identify the commercial potential of their inventions, innovations and
knowledge.
- Intellectual Property Protection. The RSO helps researchers to
protect their intellectual property with services such as patent filing
and other processes that lead to commercialization.
- Technology Licensing. The RSO helps researchers to find market
licensing opportunities that create mutually beneficial relationships
between companies and researchers.
