University of Calgary Extension Work

MacEwan began his career as a noted agriculturalist and historian and maintained these passions even while he served as chairman of the Calgary Community Foundation, president of the Men's Canadian Club of Calgary, alderman, and eventually as mayor. After serving the province as Lieutenant Governor, he taught a credit course for the History Department at the University of Calgary. The class, titled "From the Red to the Rockies", covered the exploration and settlement of the Canadian prairies.

Grant MacEwan also lectured at the Olds Agricultural College on the history of Western Canadian agriculture. MacEwan then instructed short non-credit courses for the University of Calgary's Faculty of Continuing Education. He developed a class titled "Native Personalities" that explored the fascinating characters whom have emerged from from Indian and Metis ranks in Western Canada.

Having written a number of books on Western Canadian History it was appropriate that MacEwan titled one of his seminars "A Hundred Famous Figures in Western History." MacEwan covered a wide range of fascinating individuals and outlined the course syllabus as follows:
