Harvey Galbraith

Harvey Galbraith was born in Calgary, Alberta and moved to Toronto, Ontario as a young boy. After the Second World War, he returned to Calgary, graduated from high school, and enrolled at Mount Royal College.

Galbraith apprenticed at a stock broker's office before venturing into the insurance industry. He later moved to Edmonton, joining the manufacturing industry - a job he enjoyed because of the creative process associated with the position. He had always maintained a strong interest in real estate because if his appreciation for historic buildings.

Galbraith attributes much of his success to Don Laird, a pioneer REALTOR® in Edmonton whom Galbraith views as a mentor. Galbraith started out in small property investment and gradually learned the ethics and protocols associated with the industry. Much of his job focused on the syndication of apartments until the financial fallout of the 1980s hit him exceptionally hard. Galbraith recalls a time when he went an entire year without a single sale. Soon enough he was also managing the bookkeeping and secretarial responsibilities as he was unable to afford staff.

Like other industry members Galraith receoved by the late 1980s, building a network of clients and sales. One of his fondest memories of his time spent in Edmonton's real estate industry is the true sense of comraderie among REALTORS®. There were frequent social gatherings and parties where members would socialize sharing stories from the past and information on the present.

Galbraith describes his position as a responsible enterprise. A successful REALTOR® is also a self-starter, an entrepreneur and an invidual who recognizes the value of his or her own accomplishments.
