Albert Adrian Dick

Albert Adrian “Bert” Dick, [ca. 1880]-1970, was a wealthy real estate man in Calgary, Alberta. He established his Calgary real estate business in 1904, in an office at the Cadogan Block.

The most prominent of his real developments were the Alexandra Hotel on Ninth Avenue and the Dick Block in East Street. Built in 1910, the three-storey Dick block had shops on the ground floor and apartments above. The building was later renamed the McGill Block, and in 1986, it had to be rebuilt because of a fire.

Dick was a wealthy businessman in Calgary, and so he became a member of the Calgary Board of Trade.

He married Vera Gillespie, [ca. 1894]-1973, in Calgary in 1911. They honeymooned the following year in Europe, and booked their return passage on the ill-fated Titanic. Both survived its sinking. On their return they lived in a Tudor manor in Mount Royal, at 2211 - 7th Street SW.
