AL RASHID MOSQUE

Fort Edmonton Park, Edmonton
Built in 1938

Canada’s first mosque, Al Rashid, was built by Edmonton’s Muslim population, which consisted of only 34 individuals. It is a brick building with two concrete minarets from which the call to prayer is issued. The original central dome has now been removed. Al Rashid remained Canada’s only mosque until one was built in London, Ontario in 1952.
