  • ALBERTA HOTEL (CALGARY)
    One of Calgary’s earliest sandstone buildings, the hotel was popular among ranchers for their forays into town, and was home to a number of colorful characters who frequented its Long Bar, reputed to be the longest between Winnipeg and Hong Kong

    The Greene Block was constructed in 1901 for George Greene, who came to Red Deer from Ontario in 1891 to establish a law practice.

    Built in 1903 to house Neilson Furniture Company, started by Hugh Neilson in 1894, the Neilson Block was enlarged in 1910.

    The façade of the Thomson Brothers Block is an excellent example of Calgary’s early sandstone period.

    The Tribune Block gets its name from having briefly served as the home of the Calgary Tribune newspaper (a forerunner of the Albertan and the Calgary Sun).
