  • ALLEN (PALACE) THEATRE
    Barney Allen and his two sons, Jules and Jay, found the first big international movie theatre circuit in 1906; it was Canadian, based in Brantford, Ontario. In 1909 they made Calgary their base of operations and opened the Allen (Strand) Theatre on 8th Avenue SE.
  • BEAR CREEK SKI JUMP SITE
    Grande Prairie residents shared in the enthusiasm for Nordic sports that swept Canada following the war. On February 15, 1920, a new ski club opened in Grande Prairie.
  • CALGARY PUBLIC BUILDING
    The Calgary Public Building was opened by Prime Minister R.B. Bennett on August 21, 1931.
  • CITADEL THEATRE
    The Citadel Theatre officially opened on November 12, 1976. It was designed by Barton Myers of Toronto and R.L. Wilkin of Edmonton.
  • CITY HALL PARK
    Based on the 1913 civic centre plan by local architect, C.A. Julian Sharman, City Hall Park was first landscaped in 1914.
  • CLIFF TRIANGLE PARK
    The development of this small park was due to the vision of William Roland Reader, Calgary's Superintendent of Parks between 1913 and 1942.
  • DUBUC PARK
    Judge Lucien Dubuc, who was passionately interested in gardening, created this small public park on the crest of the river valley, overlooking Victoria Park and the Golf Links, in 1934.
  • EDMONTON ART GALLERY
    The Edmonton Art Gallery has had five homes since the Museum of Art Association was founded in 1923.
  • EMPRESS THEATRE
    The Empress Theatre has stood as a landmark in Fort Macleod since its opening in 1912 and occupies a prominent place in the center of Fort Macleod's Main Street.
  • FRANK MITCHELL'S MUSEUM
    Mitchell’s museum building is itself something of an artefact. It is the former home of Benjamin Sinclair Jr., who held the patent title on River Lot 10 of the Lobstick Settlement.
