A.M. CAMPBELL STORE As a successful businessman and, at various times, a member of the town council and board of trade, Campbell was a prominent member of Lacombe society, and his home reflects his status.

AL RASHID MOSQUE Canada’s first mosque, Al Rashid, was built by Edmonton’s Muslim population, which consisted of only 34 individuals.
ALBERTA GOVERNMENT TELEPHONES BUILDING On Saturday, January 29, 1921, the Alberta Government officially opened its long distance telephone service to the Peace River country.
ALLEN (PALACE) THEATRE Barney Allen and his two sons, Jules and Jay, found the first big international movie theatre circuit in 1906; it was Canadian, based in Brantford, Ontario. In 1909 they made Calgary their base of operations and opened the Allen (Strand) Theatre on 8th Avenue SE.
ARTS BUILDING On the 8th of October 1915, the Main Teaching Building was opened by Lieutenant Governor George Bulyea at a special ceremony of such length that the last three speeches had to be cancelled.
ATHLONE APARTMENTS The Athlone Apartments, named for the Earl of Athlone, Governor General of Canada at the time, was built in 1940 by Arthur Cumming Ltd. Cumming was a successful Calgary businessman.
BAKER RESIDENCE Herbert Baker was born in Yorkshire, England on December 10, 1866. He came to Canada in 1882 and worked for the Massey Manufacturing Co., later Massey-Harris, in Toronto.
