Sir Winston Churchill Provincial Park

Category : Provincial

This 239.33 hectare (591.40 acre) provincial park was created by Order-in-Council No. 888/65 and was named after Sir Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill, K.G., P.C., O.M., C.H. (1874-1965). This English statesman and writer was a correspondent for the Morning Post of London during the Boer War, and wrote about his several adventures while in South Africa. He returned to England to be elected to Parliament, during which he made a dramatic move by switching parties. He continued to become a forceful speaker, and maintained that the only way to keep peace was to prepare for war. During World War I, Churchill was sent to France. He devoted much attention to the control and development of the air force and to both military and civilian aircraft experimentation and development. He returned to the Conservative Party in 1924. Churchill was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1953. Besides many foreign decorations and honorary degrees, he was the recipient of several medals, prizes and other tributes. He was made a Knight of the Garter in 1953.
