Benville
Category : Village | |
This was at one time the proposed name for what became Sexsmith. Benny was the nickname of John Bernard Foster, who came with his family to the area in September 1911. His neighbour to the immediate south was Dave Sexsmith. In 1913, the local papers referred to the coming of the Edmonton, Dunvegan and British Columbia Railway. Mr. Foster was mentioned as the owner of the Foster townsite, and that the likely name for the new town would be Benville. History has decreed otherwise. Benny Foster was active in the activities and politics of the area for many years. (see also Sexsmith) |
