Berwyn
Category : Village | |
This new settlement was named in 1922, marking the end of steel for a few years on the Central Canada Railway. The post office was established the same year, with the first postmaster being E.T. Williamson. Before 1922 a settlement was located three miles east and was called Bear Lake. The name Berwyn was suggested by a Welsh railroad official, after the Berwyn Hills or Berwyn Range, a volcanic outcrop of mountains in eastern Wales. The name is apparently derived from the Welsh bar (summit) and gwyn or wyn (white) indicating a snow-covered mountain. |
