This railway point is now a subdivision of Calgary (#69), but was once a unique settlement, established in 1912. The name was suggested by a Mr. William Lowry, owner of the land, who advertised it as the "centre of progress" or "hub" of Alberta (often abbreviated as "Alta"). This area, along with Albert Park, joined Forest Lawn to form a single village in the 1930s. The post office operated from 1 April 1912 through 21 December 1915, and from 1 April 1924 through 20 February 1961.
