Nordegg, Present-Day

In 1993, the Brazeau Collieries Minesite was declared a Provincial Historic Site and, in 2002, it became a National Historic Site of Canada. Each year, people from all over the world visit the area, and tour the Historic Site. The Nordegg Heritage Centre features a Museum and photo gallery which tells the story of Nordegg’s past, including that of the area’s Stoney Natives. The Brazeau Collieries Industrial Minesite Museum is considered
Canada’s most complete industrial museum to honour development of Canada’s coal resources.

The present town features a nine-hole golf course, incorporating three of Nordegg’s original holes (circa 1916). There are numerous lakes in the Nordegg region and two of them are used extensively for recreational purposes, such as fishing, swimming, boating, hiking, and camping. Land west of Nordegg is relatively unsettled; all development is planned and controlled by the County.
