Pylpow, Ivan

Ivan Pylpow was one of the first two Ukrainian people to start living in Canada. In 1891 he and Wasyl Eleniak came to Canada to find the free land they had heard about. After spending a few months in Canada he returned to Austria in 1892 wanting to bring his family to Canada to live. He returned with his family in 1893 and began living in Alberta. He died in an accident in 1936. His farmhouse is now a historic landmark and can be visited at the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village, east of Edmonton.
