Bad Heart River

Category : River

It is said the name is a translation of the Cree word for “heart,” miteh, maiti, or missipi. George M. Dawson of the GSC also referred to it in 1879 as “Bad Heart” or “Wicked River.” Either one of these may refer to the narrow, high canyon through which the river flows along its winding route. It may also have a spiritual significance.
