The town was named in 1904 by Mr. A.C. Flumerfelt, the President of the International Coal and Coke Company after his youngest daughter, Florence Coleman Flumerfelt. Coleman was incorporated in September of 1910.

Located in the Crowsnest Pass, approximately 5 km north-west of Blairmore.
