It is a translation of the Cree word muskiwa. Many local residents refer to Bear River as Bear Greek. A letter to the Surveyor General from W.G. McFarlane, DLS, dated 1909 referred to this feature as Bear Creek. However, the official name is still Bear River. (see Bear River) |
