Category : Falls | |
These falls are located on the Athabasca River about 32 km above Jasper. Athabasca is the Cree Indian name meaning "where there are reeds." This refers to the muddy delta of the river where it falls into Lake Athabasca. In 1790, the lake was called "Lake of the Hills" and the river "Great Araubaska." There have been various developments to the name over time which have resulted in the final Athabasca Lake, River, Town, Pass and Falls. |
