Ferguson Lake

Category : Lake

Recorded by the Dominion Lands Survey in 1909, the name had been in use for some years. It was most probably named after the St. Pierre Ferguson family who had been in the area. Mr. Ferguson was born in 1878 in Grouard, the son of an employee of the Hudson's Bay Company. St. Pierre Ferguson was long associated with the area, and had many careers. These included a factor for the Hudson's Bay Company, cattle driver, census taker, farmer, forest ranger, freighter, interpreter, Justice of the Peace, and Municipal Councillor. He is also said to have owned the first pool hall in Grande Prairie. Mr. Ferguson died on January 1, 1972.

Approximately 7 km north of Grande Prairie.
