Moose Bay

Category : Bay

The precise origin of the name of this bay is unknown; it is likely descriptive of the animal in the area. The word moose comes from the Algonkian language meaning browser or stripper, referring to its method of eating. Found in the northern forests across most of Canada, this ruminant, Alces alces, is the largest member of the deer family. The moose and the loon are two enduring symbols of the Northern wilderness. The moose has the distinct honour of having more features named after it in Canada than anything else.

Approximately 87 km east south-east of Fort McMurray.
