Yates River

It was officially named in 1946 after it was submitted by M.G. Cameron, DLS, honouring Constable R.N.Yates, of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police who was stationed at Fort Vermilion. His territory included this area. It is known locally as Big River.

Flows north-east into the Northwest Territories approximately 175 km north north-east of High Level.
