Affectionately dubbed Edmonton’s “French Quarter,” the Bonnie Doon neighbourhood is home to a large percentage of the province’s Francophone population. As of 1991, over 11 percent of the neighbourhood’s residents claimed French as their mother tongue. The area continues to prosper and is the hub of French life in the city. A cultural centre, Francophone high school, church, seniors' centre, the Faculté Saint Jean campus and student residences all call Bonnie Doon home.

In addition, Edmonton is also home to one of Alberta's most beautiful monuments to the contribution of French-Canadians. St. Joachim's Church is the oldest Roman Catholic parish in Edmonton, and was founded by Father Albert Lacombe. In 1978 it was designated a provincial historic resource.
