Magnetic Junk Sub for Oil Wells and the Like (Patent No: 567222)

Description: The embodiments of the invention in which an exclusive property or privilege is claimed are defined as follows:

1. A junk sub for oil wells adapted to be situated along the length of the drill pipe string, comprising in combination a cylindrical supporting mandrel and a plurality of magnetic rings surrounding said mandrel, and non-magnetic spacers in between each pair of said rings.

2. The device according to Claim 1 which includes a non-magnetic sleeve surrounding said mandrel between said magnetic ring and said mandrel.

3. The device according to Claim 1 in which said mandrel includes a drill stem attaching upper shoulder and a drill stem attaching lower, screw-threaded end.

4. The device according to Claim 1 which includes a plurality of magnetic rings surrounding said mandrel, and non-magnetic spacers in between each pair of said rings, said mandrel including a drill stem attaching upper shoulder and a drill stem attaching, lower screw threaded end, said magnetic rings and said spacers being clamped between said shoulder and the shoulder of the next succeeding drill pipe upper end.

5. The device according to Claims 1, 2 or 3, which includes a dished catcher plate on said mandrel below said magnetic rings.

6. The device according to Claims 2, 3 or 4 in which at least one of said spacer rings is grooved around the perimeter thereof to act as a catcher plate.
