The embodiments of the invention in which an exclusive property or privilege is claimed are defined as follows:
1. A fire retardant polymer composition comprising (1) a
polymer of an unsaturated hydrocarbon and (2) a compound selected from the group consisting of (a) 1,2,3,6-tetrahydro-3,6-methano-3,4,5,6,7, 7-hexachlorophthalimide, (b) 2,2',3,3',4,4',5,5',7,7,7',7'-dodecachloro-l,1',2,2',5,5',6,6'-octahydro-2,2',5,5'-methanobiphenyl, (c) tetrachlorophthalimide and mixtures thereof.
2. A fire retardant polymer composition comprising (1) a
polymer of an unsaturated hydrocarbon and (2) 1,2,3,6-tetrahydro-3,6-methano-3,4,5,6,7,7-hexachlorophthalimide.
3. A fire retardant polymer composition comprising (1) a
polymer of an unsaturated hydrocarbon and (2) 2,2'3,3',4,4', 5,5',7,7,7',7'-dodecachloro-l,1',2,2',5,5',6,6'-octahydro-2,2', 5,5'-methanobiphenyl.
4. A fire retardant polymer composition comprising (1) a polymer of an unsaturated hydrocarbon and (2) tetrachlorophthalimide.
5. The composition of Claim 1 or 2, wherein the polymer is polyethylene.
6. The composition of Claim 3 or 4, wherein the polymer is polyethylene.
7. The composition of Claim 1 or 2, wherein the polymer is polypropylene.
8. The composition of Claim 3 or 4, wherein the polymer is polypropylene.
9. The composition of Claim 1 or 2, wherein the polymer is polystyrene.
10. The composition of Claim 3 or 4, wherein the polymer is polystyrene.
11. A fire retardant polymer composition comprising (1) a member selected from the group consisting of polyethylene, polypropylene and polystyrene, and (2) a compound selected from the group consisting of (a) 1,2,3,6-tetrahydro-3,6-methano3,4,5,6,7,7-hexachlorophthalimide, (b) 2,2',3,3',4,4',5,5',7,7,7',7'-dodecachloro-1,l',2,2',5,5',6,6'-octahydro-2,2',5,5'methanobipheny1, (c) tetrachlorophthalimide and mixtures thereof, said compound (2) being present in an amount of from about 5 to about 50 percent by weight of the polymer composition.

A fire retardant polymer composition comprising (1) a polymer of an unsaturated hydrocarbon, (2) a compound selected from the group consisting of (a) 1,2,3,6-tetrabydro-3,6-methano3,4,5,6,7,7-hexachlorophthalimide, (b) 2,2',3,3',4,4',5,5',7,7,7',7'-dodecachloro-1,l',2,2',5,5',6,6'-octabydro-2,2',5,5'methanobipheny1, (c) tetrachlorophthalimide and mixtures thereof and (3) antimony compound.
13. A fire retardant polymer composition comprising (1) a polymer of an unsaturated hydrocarbon, (2) a compound selected from the group consisting of (a) 1,2,3,6-tetrahydro-3,6-methano3,4,5,6,7,7-hexach1orophthalimide, (b) 2,2',3,3',4,4',5,5',7,7,7',7'-dodecachloro-1,l',2,2',5,5',6,6'-octahydro-2,2',5,5'methanobipheny1, (c) tetrachlorophthalimide and mixtures thereof and (3) antimony oxide.
14. A fire retardant polymer composition comprising (1) a member selected from the group consisting of polyethylene, polypropylene and polystyrene, (2) a compound selected from the group consisting of (a) 1,2,3,6-tetrahydro-3,6-methano
3,4,5,6,7,7-hexachlorophthalimide, (b) 2,2',3,3',4,4',5,5',7,7, 7',7'-dodecachloro-l,1',2,2'5,5',6,6'-octahydro-2,2',5,5'methanobiphenyl, (c) tetrachlorophthalimide and mixtures thereof and (3) antimony oxide, said compound (2) being present in an amount of from about 5 to about 50 percent by weight of the polymer composition, and said antimony compound being present in an amount of from about 1 to about 30 percent of the polymer composition.
15. A process for preparing a fire retardant polymer
composition comprising incorporating into the polymer of an unsaturated hydrocarbon a compound selected from the group consisting of (a) l,2,3,6-tetrahydro-3,6-methano-3,4,5,6,7,7hexachlorophthalimide, (b) 2,2',3,3',4,4',5,5',7,7,7',7'dodecachloro-l,l',2,2',5,5',6,6'-octahydro-2,2',5,5'-methanobiphenyl, (c) tetrachlorophthalimide and mixtures thereof.
16. A process for preparing fire retardant polyethylene, polypropylene or polystyrene, comprising incorporating into the polymer a member selected from the group consisting of
(a) l,2,3,6-tetrahydro-3,6-methano-3,4,5,6,7,7-hexachlorophthalimide, (b) 2,2',3,3',4,4',5,5',7,7,7',7'-dodecachloro,l,l',2,2',5,5',6,6'-octahydro-2,2',5,5'-methanobiphenyl (c) tetrachlorophthalimide and mixtures thereof.
17. A process, as defined in Claim 16, wherein the compound incorporated into the polymer is incorporated therein in an amount of from about 5 to about 50 percent by weight of the polymer composition.
18. A process for preparing a fire retardant polymer
composition comprising incorporating into a polymer of an unsaturated hydrocarbon, a compound selected from the group consisting of (a) l,2,3,6-tetrahydro-3,6-methano-3,4,5,6,7,7 hexachlorophtha1imide, (b) 2,2',3,3',4,4',5,5',7,7,7',7'dodecach1oro-1,1',2,2',5,5 ',6,6'-octahydro-2,2',5,5'-methanobiphenyl, (c) tetrachlorophtha1imide and mixtures thereof, and an antimony compound.
19. A process, as defined in Claim 18, wherein said
polymer of an unsaturated hydrocarbon is a member selected from the group consisting of polyethylene, polypropylene and polystyrene, said compound being incorporated therein in an amount of from about 5 to about 50 percent by weight of the polymer composition and the antimony oxide being incorporated therein in an amount of from about 1 to about 30 percent by weight of the polymer composition.
