Binder Driving Machine (Patent No: 338451)
Inventor: Koch, Henry Location: Calgary Comments: N/A Description:
I am aware that binders are propelled by mechanical means and I do not desire to claim such broadly as my invention; but
What I do claim as my invention, and desire to secure by letters patent, is-
1) The combination in a binder driving device of an attachable frame, a motive power unit mounted thereon, a universally jointed drive shaft coupling the said power unit to the existing propulsion mechanism of the binder, a splined joint a on the said drive shaft to compensate for variations in levels of the binder and the said frame and for grain height variation, a ratchet lever mounted on the said frame adjacent to the operator for engine gear control, a pair of guiding wheels supporting the said frame, a steering column extending from the mechanism controlling the said wheels with a steering wheel positioned adjacent to the operator, all as set forth.
2) The combination in a binder driving device of an attachable frame, a motive power unit mounted thereon, a universally jointed driveshaft coupling the said power unit to the existing propulsion mechanism of the binder, a splined joint on the said drive shaft to compensate for variations in levels of the binder and the said frame and for grain height variations, a ratchet lever mounted adjacent to the operator for engine gear control, a pair of guiding wheels supporting the said frame, a steering column extending from the mechanism controlling the said wheels with a steering wheel, means by lever mechanism to tilt the binder with respect to the said frame, a standard binder clutch modified to permit reverse direction of travel and to permit rear propulsion of the binder, all as set forth.
3) The combination in a binder driving device of an attachable frame together with all the parts and mechanisms as set forth in claim 2, an additional frame attachable to the said main frame, a chain and sprocket drive operated by the motive power unit mentioned in the said claim 2, an additional universally jointed power transmission shaft driven from the said chain and sprocket drive, a countershaft attached to the said additional transmission shaft and mounted on a second binder for propulsion of the said second binder, a weight carrying castor wheel attachment on the said additional frame, all as described in the specification and drawings.
